Small Blues, Kingfish, and a few small Bass!

Sorry for the lack of reports recently. The shops been very hectic the past month. We appreciate all the business! I also want to mention that our website will be changing in the coming weeks. We’ll have a full online store available to our customers! We’ve been working very hard on this. You’ll also be able to get the weekly fishing report on there. When it comes to the fishing we’re in a transition month. The mullet run has begun and with the cooler nights things are slowly starting to happen. Lots of small blues and we’re hearing of some small bass in the morning. Nothing crazy yet but it’s good to hear of some bass. The kingfish have been in the surf. Use fishbites, clams, or squid for them. Weather doesn’t look the best the next few days but if we hear anything we’ll post it on our social media pages.

Small Blues & Fluke remain the game in town…

The fishing isn’t great by any means but there is some activity around. The Bluefish have been all over the surf. Small Metals, Epoxy Jigs, or mullet remains your best bet. They’ve ranged anywhere from snapper size to 3 lbs. Fluking has slowed a bit but we still have some guys doing well each morning using gulp and bucktails. Still lots of big Rays around so watch your rods. In the bay we still have some good crabbing but a lot of smaller ones showing up the past week. Few snappers on the local docks.

We’ve had a lot of stuff come in the past week so please pay attention to our social media pages for updates. Some Hot items that have come in: Shimano Stradic 3000’s, Quantum Accurist reels, Fenwick HMG Rods, Tica Surf Rods, Daiwa BG Reels, Siegler Reels, NEW Avet Star Drag Reels, Captain Rons Bug Repellent to name a few!

Open 430am-8pm Daily!

Ocean bouncing back from storm…

The fishing is slowly bouncing back from the past tropical storm. We got some reports of Fluke in the wash, small blues, and some Rays. Actually had one of our customers report a nice 27″ Bass on a metal. Water temps have cooled a bit compared to last week. Crabbing in the bay remains good and we’re hearing more and more about snappers in the bay. Typical summer fishing right now.

Some good news when it comes to stock. It’s no secret but the supply chain for fishing tackle has been brutal. Each day we’re working hard to keep the shop stocked and it’s been paying off. First off, I want to say THANK YOU to all our loyal customers. We’ve been overwhelmed by the amount of business the past few months. Grumpys has never been busier and we want to thank everyone! When it comes to orders we received a monster load of Gulp and Tsunami products Thursday and we have one of our biggest orders of the year coming next week. Pay attention to our social media each day on arriving products!

The state is requiring everyone (employees & customers) that enter the store to wear face coverings so please make sure you have one before entering. We’re also going the extra mile keeping the shop sanitized and clean. We look forward to seeing everyone.

OPEN Daily 430am-8pm!

Report hasn’t changed much!

Pretty much the same report as the last one. Lots of summer time species around. Fluking has been picking up each day. Lots of small fish around but there’s been some nice keeper size Fluke weighed in the past couple weeks. The small blues are really making their presence known! Small epoxy jigs, metals, mullet, and bunker chucks are all producing. Lots of Rays and sharks around so watch your rods! The crabbing in the bay is still excellent. Starting Friday 7/31 our New Hours off operation for this summer will be 430am-8pm everyday.

Just a important note for our customers… We’ve been working very hard the past month making sure the shop is fully stocked. The availability on items is starting to dry up due to the covid situation but we’re working around the clock to make sure our customers have a large selection of todays hot items. You know how we work!

Summer fishing in full swing! Crabbing HOT in Bay!

The ocean has warmed up in recent weeks and it sure has brought the summer species. Fluke, Small Blues, Spanish Mackerel, Rays, Sharks, and some Kingfish. Fluke has been the game in town though! All you need is Gulp and bucktails. We have everything you need. I also want to mention on how good the crabbing in the bay is right now. Crazy amount of keepers. Probably the best we’ve heard in years. I personally went out the other day and caught over 130 keepers on handlines! It’s that good! We got loaded up on all crabbing gear Friday. Traps, Lines, Nets, and bait. There’s also some snappers showing in the bay.

Summer species starting to show!

As the majority of bass migrate north for the summer the summer species have returned. Sharks, Rays, Kingfish, Houndfish, Small Blues, and Fluke have taken over. There is still some bass around though! If you soaking bait keep an eye on those rods! These Rays and Sharks have taken a few rods in the water the past couple weeks. A Lot of attention has been on the Fluke recently. We’ve been getting good reports each day. S&S Bucktail and Gulp combo on a Gulp teaser rig is the way to go. We have everything you need! Crabbing in the bay has really improved. Good reports coming off the local docks. Landlines producing the best.

Little bit of everything around!

Still getting reports of Bass and Drum along the beach. Mostly all on bait when it comes to the bass. The bluefish are still prowling the surf. Mullet, Bunker, Metals, and small poppers are producing them. The Fluking has been the game in town. When the conditions allow the fishing has been pretty darn good. Gulp and jigs are the way to go. The Fluking on the boats has also picked up locally. The crabbing in the bay has finally turned-on on our side of the bay. Hearing of some blowfish in the bay as well. The big southern rays are on the surf each night so watch your rods! Heard of one rod causality this week!

Still bass and blues around! Fluke in the wash!

Less reports than last week but we’re still hearing of bass, bluefish, fluke, and a few drum. We weighed-in a nice 15lb bass yesterday and we actually heard of couple bass over the 38″ mark that had the be released Wednesday. The bass have been scattered along the beach and most of them have been reported on bait. There’s still bunker in the area. The bluefish have been in the surf, bay, and inlet. Poppers, metals, bucktails, mullet have been producing. The Fluking has been picking up each day! Both surf and inlet are producing keeper size fish. Gulp teaser rig with a S&S Bucktail has been the ticket. We’re loaded on everything for fluke! The big Rays have moved into the area. Waters are warming up so if you’re soaking bait watch your rod or you’l lose it!

Big IBSP Black Drum! Blues in the bay..

The Black drum have returned to our area and they’re big! We heard of several in the 20 plus pound range. Good customer Jimmy Betz weighed in two over 24lbs! Both caught on salted clams in the IBSP Surf. This is exactly when we saw them last year. When rigging up for them use a Fishfinder Rig. Same as a bass fish finder rig. Jimmy also reported some bass and blues from the surf using bait. The ocean has calmed and its cleaning up. Should be a great few days ahead condition wise. The back bay is also producing more Bluefish on poppers the past couple days. Some of the blues have been on the larger side.

Fishing Report:
Perfect way to sum up the fishing right now is hit or miss. Had a few anglers do really well before dark using plugs. Few bass being taken on bait daily. Best times right now are first light and right before dark with the bass. We did have some Black Drum move into the area. Heard of a handful of big ones the past 2 days on clams. The Blues are still prowling the surf. Most are small but they’ve been fun. Poppers, Mullet, or Bunker for them. The Fluking is still kind of slow along the beach but the back bay is heating up. Good reports from the northern bay on them. Gulp and jigs is all you need. The crabbing in the bay is picking up everyday. Good size keepers being landed now.
